Our Approach

The Pillars is a whole of life framework that helps individuals achieve sustainable high performance by strengthening five interconnected areas: Me, Family, Community, Work, and Wealth, each broken into practical, science backed building blocks that support clarity, wellbeing, and impact.

How we do it

We believe in a whole-of-life approach where we acknowledge that key area in life are not compartmentalised, but instead, are closely connected. To perform on a high level sustainably, it is essential to manage each key area effectively.

The Pillars framework is a structured framework of five key areas – our Pillars: Me, Family, Community, Work, and Wealth. Through values-aligned prioritisation, participants nurture their capacity, wellbeing, and performance.

The approach is designed to be tangible and easy to apply, yet measurable and grounded in science, creating real impact on individuals and the organisations they serve to achieve sustainable high performance.

We have designed The Pillars framework enable 1 million people to lead their best life: Excelling in whatever it is that matters to them the most, without neglecting other important areas that can cause resistors to challenge wellbeing.

Whole of life approach

The Pillars aligns focus with personal values. As alignment increases, so does capacity.

…which has a significant impact individual wellbeing and performance.

The role of capacity: cognitive appraisal

Capacity is closely linked to cognitive appraisal, which is the way we interpret new information.

  • Minor stressors are often interpreted as a threat
  • We delay problem solving and respond with withdrawal, often leading to bigger issues
  • We focus on short-term challenges rather than the big picture
  • Change is seen as a risk or a burden, and we tend to resist
  • Feedback feels like criticism or an attack and become defensive
  • We feel unable to handle situations that ‘happen to us’, and feel like we are not in control
  • Challenges are seen as opportunities; we feel energised
  • We tackle problems as they arise before they become larger issues
  • We focus on long-term vision and the big picture, putting present challenges in perspective
  • Change is seen as an opportunity
  • Feedback feels like an opportunity to grow and is embraced
  • We feel empoowered to handle situations feel like we are in control of the outcome

Impact on workplace performance

There is a close association between capacity and workplace performance, both directly: enhanced decision making and opportunity recognition and indirectly: Reduced risk of burnout, attrition, team conflicts.

The Pillars is a system of performance optimisation

In order to perform, we need to understand what the goal is (clarity), take steps to achieve the goal, and do this consistently.

To achieve sustainable performance

You need to know your value-aligned goal...

...take decisive action...

... consistently over time...

...while minimising things that prevent you from getting there.

Any you need to know why you do it

At the same time, we need to minimise the interference of resistors; factors that can interfere with our ability to perform. Common examples include low energy/burnout, lack of passion/focus, poor health, or relationship breakdowns.

Getting started with The Pillars

Implementing The Pillars is easy and low risk. Many clients opt for a smaller cohort of 8-10 participants to understand the impact before rolling the Pillars out as a wider initiative.
